{"id":12029,"date":"2011-12-22T15:44:15","date_gmt":"2011-12-22T20:44:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=12029"},"modified":"2011-12-22T14:58:01","modified_gmt":"2011-12-22T19:58:01","slug":"residents-complain-about-area-gang-problems","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=12029","title":{"rendered":"Residents Complain About Area Gang Problems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>LEON CREWS<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Sentinel Staff Writer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For fear of retaliation, <strong>Catrina<\/strong> and <strong>Felicia<\/strong> don\u2019t want their last names used, but both women said there is a growing problem in their community with gang violence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe problem is there is a gang in Progress Village that has an ongoing feud with kids in Clair-Mel, and things have gotten really violent lately,\u201d said the two women.<\/p>\n<p>One particular incident both women point to occurred three weeks ago at the Red Lobster Restaurant in Brandon.<\/p>\n<p>According to <strong>Catrina<\/strong>, her son was waiting along with a friend to be seated when a group of young men from Progress Village walked in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey walked past my son and his friend, then turned around and attacked them for no reason,\u201d said <strong>Catrina<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were about five young men involved, and the personnel at the restaurant did nothing to stop it. Deputies were called, and came to see what was going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff\u2019s Office, deputies were called to the restaurant about a disturbance, but when they arrived, nothing was going on and no report was taken.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Catrina<\/strong> said her son had to be hospitalized, and his friend was also treated at the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of the boys involved in this are juveniles, so they don\u2019t really get punished,\u201d said <strong>Catrina<\/strong>. \u201cWe\u2019re afraid this will escalate into something that will cost someone their life, and that\u2019s so stupid.
