{"id":12017,"date":"2011-12-22T15:36:11","date_gmt":"2011-12-22T20:36:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=12017"},"modified":"2011-12-22T14:38:34","modified_gmt":"2011-12-22T19:38:34","slug":"nicole-murphy-sues-man-for-stealing-millions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=12017","title":{"rendered":"Nicole Murphy Sues Man For Stealing Millions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SACRAMENTO, CA \u2014 A self-described Los Angeles entertainment entrepreneur is charged in a federal indictment unsealed Tuesday with bilking $7 million from <strong>Nicole Murphy<\/strong>, ex-wife of actor-comedian <strong>Eddie Murphy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Troy David Stratos<\/strong> faces 14 charges of fraud, money laundering and obstructing justice. <strong>Stratos<\/strong>, 45, was arrested Tuesday and made his first appearance in Los Angeles federal court.<\/p>\n<p>Court records show <strong>Nicole Murphy<\/strong> sued Stratos and others last year in Los Angeles federal court and refiled the lawsuit in May in Florida state court. She filed for divorce from <strong>Eddie Murphy<\/strong> in August 2005. The indictment charges that <strong>Stratos<\/strong> persuaded his victim to invest the proceeds of her divorce overseas, where they would earn a high rate of return. She put the proceeds into a revocable trust with<strong> Stratos<\/strong> in Fair Oaks, a Sacramento suburb, according to the federal indictment. Prosecutors say <strong>Stratos<\/strong> never invested the money, but spent it on himself.
