{"id":11644,"date":"2011-12-01T16:07:19","date_gmt":"2011-12-01T21:07:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=11644"},"modified":"2011-12-01T16:07:19","modified_gmt":"2011-12-01T21:07:19","slug":"man-uses-%e2%80%98stand-your-ground%e2%80%99-law-as-defense","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=11644","title":{"rendered":"Man Uses \u2018Stand Your Ground\u2019 Law As Defense"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hillsborough County Public School bus driver, <strong>Trevor Dooley<\/strong>, was arrested and charged with manslaughter on September 26, 2010 as the result of a fatal altercation <strong>Dooley<\/strong> had with a neighbor, <strong>David James<\/strong>, 41.<\/p>\n<p>Deputies said <strong>James<\/strong> was playing basketball with his 8-year-old daughter near their home and gave a 14-year-old boy permission to skateboard on the basketball court. <strong>Dooley<\/strong> reportedly saw <strong>James<\/strong> give the teen permission, and came out of his house, saying skateboarding was not allowed.<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses said <strong>Dooley<\/strong> had turned to leave when <strong>James<\/strong> closed the distance between them, yelling at <strong>Dooley<\/strong> for using profanity in front of his daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses further reported that <strong>James<\/strong> caught up with <strong>Dooley<\/strong>, spun him around, and <strong>Dooley<\/strong> went to the ground. <strong>James<\/strong> reportedly landed on top of <strong>Dooley<\/strong>. <strong>Dooley<\/strong> shot and killed <strong>James<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dooley<\/strong>, 70, wants to invoke Florida\u2019s \u2018Stand Your Ground\u201d law as a defense, and his attorney, <strong>Ronald Tulin<\/strong>, has filed a motion with the court seeking the charges against <strong>Dooley<\/strong> be dismissed on those grounds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dooley<\/strong> was also charged with improper exhibition of a weapon, and open carrying of a weapon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hillsborough County Public School bus driver, Trevor Dooley, was arrested and charged with manslaughter on September 26, 2010 as the result of a fatal altercation Dooley had with a neighbor, David James, 41.
