HOLTON<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Sentinel City Editor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am so happy. I just thank God that my sister got her justice. Her soul is at peace now,\u201d <strong>Ms. Rachel Johnson<\/strong> said of the guilty verdict of<strong> Vincent George Brown<\/strong>. A jury found <strong>Brown<\/strong> guilty of killing <strong>Ms. Jennifer Johnson<\/strong> in November 2008.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ms. Johnson<\/strong> further said, \u201cHe may have breath, but he\u2019ll never walk the streets again. I hope he gets the death penalty. I thank <strong>Judge<\/strong> <strong>William Fuente<\/strong> and the jury for giving my sister her justice.\u201d She also said her mother, <strong>Mrs. Alma Dorsey Johnson<\/strong>, was pleased with the verdict.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ms. Tisha Collins<\/strong>, <strong>Ms. Johnson\u2019s<\/strong> cousin said, \u201cOur family is blessed. We want to thank everyone who prayed for our family and justice has been served. We got want we wanted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also want to let the world know that battered women need to know when it\u2019s time to get out. Women need to open their eyes. <strong>Jennifer<\/strong> was a battered woman, but she thought he loved her, she didn\u2019t realize that he didn\u2019t love her. But, now her soul is at peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several family members of <strong>Ms. Johnson<\/strong> were in court throughout the trial.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mrs. Dorsey Johnson<\/strong> is raising her granddaughter who <strong>Brown<\/strong> fathered. The little girl is 5 years old now.<\/p>\n<p>On November 15, 2008, <strong>Ms. Johnson\u2019s<\/strong> family reported her missing after she failed to attend her daughter\u2019s 2nd birthday party.<\/p>\n<p>Police listed <strong>Brown<\/strong>, 41, as a person of interest because observed arguing with <strong>Ms. Johnson<\/strong> at Apollo South on N. 40th Street, around 11 p.m., on November 14th. <strong>Ms. Johnson<\/strong> also accompanied <strong>Brown<\/strong> to his parents\u2019 home around 3 a.m., on November 15th.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ms. Johnson\u2019s<\/strong> car was found in the parking lot of a school on November 17th. On November 19th, <strong>Ms. Johnson\u2019s<\/strong> bruised and battered body was found in a vacant house in Lakeland.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Last Plea For Help<\/strong><br \/>\nAs the investigation progressed, police learned that <strong>Ms. Johnson\u2019s<\/strong> last called was to a Plant City 9-1-1 operator, during the early morning hours of November 15th. In the call, <strong>Ms. Johnson<\/strong> said, \u201cI\u2019m in the trunk of my car.\u2026 They got me in the car. I don\u2019t know where I\u2019m at.\u201d The call dropped before any additional information could be obtained.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cI Did What I Had<\/strong><strong> To Do, And It\u2019s Done\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nAccording to police, an \u201cuncooperative\u201d <strong>Brown<\/strong> turned himself in to police on a probation violation the day after she was reported missing.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to turning himself in, <strong>Brown<\/strong> went to a party driving <strong>Ms. Johnson\u2019s<\/strong> car. When asked the whereabouts of <strong>Ms. Johnson<\/strong>, <strong>Brown<\/strong> extended his arms, pointed both thumbs down, and made a noise.<\/p>\n<p>Jurors also heard a message Brown left on his cell phone voice mail, \u201cI did what I had to do, and it\u2019s done.
