{"id":11223,"date":"2011-11-07T15:40:11","date_gmt":"2011-11-07T20:40:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=11223"},"modified":"2011-11-07T15:49:48","modified_gmt":"2011-11-07T20:49:48","slug":"suspect-sought-in-murder-of-teen-killed-helping-friend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/?p=11223","title":{"rendered":"Suspect Sought In Murder Of Teen Killed Helping Friend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Sunday in the 3900 block of East Ellicott Street, a 16-year-old teenager was shot at least twice and later died at a local hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Tampa Police said <strong>Jamarie Lavon Hodges<\/strong> was shot across the street from his house.<\/p>\n<p>According to his family, <strong>Jamarie<\/strong> was inside his home with his brother, <strong>Jaylen<\/strong>, when he heard noises outside. According to witnesses, a close friend of <strong>Jamarie\u2019s<\/strong> named <strong>Poocho<\/strong>, was involved in a fight, and had been knocked out.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jamarie<\/strong> and <strong>Jaylen<\/strong> reportedly ran outside to aid<strong> Poocho<\/strong> when another person fired several shots from a handgun, striking <strong>Jamarie<\/strong> twice.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11227\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Jose-Guillermo-Torres-Melvin.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11227\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-11227\" src=\"https:\/\/flsentinel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/Jose-Guillermo-Torres-Melvin-150x150.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11227\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jose Guillermo Torres-Melvin<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Tampa Police Homicide detectives have issued a warrant for the arrest of <strong>Jose Guillermo Torres-Melvis<\/strong>, 19, on a charge of first-degree murder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jamarie<\/strong>, along with two of his brothers, <strong>Jaylen<\/strong> and <strong>Javon<\/strong>, lived with their grandmother, <strong>Mary Ann Reynolds<\/strong>, who has had custody of them since 2002.<\/p>\n<p>According to<strong> Ms. Reynolds<\/strong>, <strong>Jamarie<\/strong> had attended Middleton High School, and was trying hard to join the school\u2019s football program. \u201cHe really loved football and free-hand drawing,\u201d said <strong>Ms. Reynolds<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ms. Reynolds<\/strong> said she wasn\u2019t home when the shooting occurred, but at a church function. \u201cI got a call, and came straight home. That\u2019s when I was told what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jamarie<\/strong> was known to put in a little work at Harmon\u2019s Funeral Home, and the owner, <strong>John Harmon<\/strong>, said <strong>Jamarie<\/strong> helped him recently with a funeral service.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jamarie<\/strong> was the second oldest of 4 boys, the youngest being 7-year-old <strong>Jimmie Jordan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jamarie<\/strong> had no insurance coverage at the time of his death, and anyone who wants to make a donation to help the family is asked to contact Harmon\u2019s Funeral Home at (813) 626-8600.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Sunday in the 3900 block of East Ellicott Street, a 16-year-old teenager was shot at least twice and later died at a local hospital.
