Radio Hall Of Fame"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>ATLANTA<\/strong> &#8211; The late soul legend <strong>James Brown<\/strong> has been inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brown&#8217;s<\/strong> daughter, <strong>Deanna Brown Thomas<\/strong>, accepted the honor for him at an awards ceremony on Saturday in Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brown<\/strong> died in December 2006 at age 73. He purchased WRDW-AM in Augusta, Ga., in the late 1960s, where he had shined shoes as a boy. He also operated or owned radio stations in Atlanta, Baltimore and Knoxville, Tenn.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Godfather of Soul&#8221; was among several honorees to receive their award posthumously. Other awardees include <strong>Ernie Harwell<\/strong>, the legendary voice of the Detroit Tigers, who died last year and <strong>Ben Porter<\/strong>, a Macon radio station owner who got his radio start in south Georgia as &#8220;Jack the Bellboy.&#8221; <strong>Porter<\/strong> also died in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The Georgia Hall of Fame was established in 2007.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ATLANTA &#8211; The late soul legend James Brown has been inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame.
